History and Cultures: Students will demonstrate an understanding of dance in various cultures and historical periods

Note: Grade level is indicated in the 4th digit in the standard number
GRADESPRE-KINDERGARTEN thru 4
01.1.5.0.1 Students will perform folk dances from various cultures with competence and confidence
01.1.5.0.2 Students will perform a dance from a resource in their own community, and describe the cultural and/or historical context (how and why this dance is/was performed)
01.1.5.0.3 Students will answer questions about dance in a particular culture and time period (for example: In colonial America, why and in what settings did people dance? What did the dances look like?).
GRADES5 thru 8
01.1.5.5.1 Students will competently perform folk, traditional and/or classical dances from various cultures or time periods, and describe similarities and differences in steps and movements styles
01.1.5.5.2 Students will competently perform folk, social and/or theatrical dances from a broad spectrum of 20th century America
01.1.5.5.3 Students will learn from resources (such as people, books and videos) in their own community a folk dance of a different culture or a social dance of a different time period and the cultural/historical context of that dance, effectively sharing the dance and its context with their peers
01.1.5.5.4 Students will describe the role of dance in at least two different cultures or time periods.
GRADES9 thru 12
01.1.5.9.1 Students will perform or discuss the traditions and technique of a classical dance form
01.1.5.9.2 Students will perform and describe similarities and differences between two contemporary theatrical forms of dance or two folk dance forms
01.1.5.9.3 Students will create a time line illustrating important dance events in the 20th century
01.1.5.9.4 Students will analyze historical and cultural images of the body in dance and compare these to contemporary images
01.1.5.9.5 Students will create and answer questions about dance and dancers prior to the 20th century.
