02.0 HEALTH AND SAFETY

Human Growth and Development: Students will learn accurate information about their physical development, including human sexuality and mental and emotional health. Students will avoid behaviors that result in pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

Note: Grade level is indicated in the 4th digit in the standard number
GRADESPRE-KINDERGARTEN thru 4
02.0.3.0.1 Students will demonstrate ways of communicating care, concern and consideration to oneself and others in a respectful manner
02.0.3.0.2 Students will demonstrate ways to obtain information about human growth and development from family, clergy, health professionals and other responsible adults
02.0.3.0.3 Students will name the major body parts and identify how one can maintain and protect the body's systems
02.0.3.0.4 Students will identify the physical development of the male and female anatomy
02.0.3.0.5 Students will describe, in Grade 4 or 5, physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty
02.0.3.0.6 Students will recognize that individuals can make choices that reduce or eliminate their risk of contracting infectious disease
GRADES5 thru 8
02.0.3.5.1 Students will demonstrate and practice ways of communicating care, concern and consideration to oneself and others in a respectful manner
02.0.3.5.2 Students will demonstrate ways to obtain information about human growth, development and sexuality from family, clergy, health professionals and other responsible adults
02.0.3.5.3 Students will identify the structure and function of the male and female anatomy and understand puberty and human reproduction
02.0.3.5.4 Students will define abstinence and explain the value of postponing sexual activity
02.0.3.5.5 Students will know the skills necessary to prevent pregnancy, HIV and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
02.0.3.5.6 Students will identify the responsibilities associated with parenthood
02.0.3.5.7 Students will identify and explain how the media may influence behaviors and decisions
GRADES9 thru 12
02.0.3.9.1 Students will practice responsible behaviors associated with mature, young adult interaction
02.0.3.9.2 Students will identify community resources for physical, mental and emotional health
02.0.3.9.3 Students will describe and analyze the physical, mental, emotional and sexual changes that occur over a lifetime - from birth to death
02.0.3.9.4 Students will understand the value of abstinence and explain the value of postponing sexual activity
02.0.3.9.5 Students will identify the methods of contraception and the effectiveness of each and use the skills necessary to prevent pregnancy, HIV and STDs
02.0.3.9.6 Students will apply the decision-making process, individually and collaboratively, to address health issues
02.0.3.9.7 Students will analyze how the media may influence behaviors and decisions
