1. What are the qualities of 3-dimensional form?
2. How is 3-dimensional thinking different from 2-dimensional thinking?
3. What are the genres of sculptures?

Students will explore the following characteristics in a 3-dimensional form: balance,
weight, mass, gesture, volume, surface, and space. Students will be exposed to selected sculptors.

When students are exploring 3-dimensional form in Art 1, they will develop the ability to:
-- utilize the principles of design in their artwork,
-- translate value to a 3-dimensional level,
-- apply the principles of balance, weight, mass, gesture, volume, space, and surface,
-- choose and apply good building techniques.

All students will:

-- safely use tools and techniques,
-- relate surface to form,
-- construct a sculpture in relief and in the round,
-- use components of 3-dimensional form,
-- view a variety of examples of 3-dimensional form,
-- receive feedback on their own artwork.

1. Homework is used as a formative and summative evaluation tool.
2. Quizzes , tests, and alternative assessments may be used to access concrete information such as vocabulary, equipment use, and procedures.
3. Project evaluations may take the form of group critiques, rating scales, checklists, written evaluations, and teacher interviews.
4. A portfolio demonstrates skills learned and personal, aesthetic growth. The body of work stands as a visual record of the creative process experienced throughout the semester.
5. Group discussions give insight into the creative process and problem-solving, providing an avenue for learning, how to talk about art, how to view art, and how to improve one's skills.

Students will attend field trips for the viewing of sculptures.
