1. What are the qualities of a good self-portrait?
2. How does one use Photoshop to edit and manipulate photographs?

This unit emphasizes learning the effective/efficient use of Photoshop software, applying the elements of design in creating visual images, learning the visual and emotional qualities of color, learning the creative process: concept/ idea development,
gathering images from disk, web, scanners, and digital cameras, editing images for exposure, clarity, and color with Photoshop, and exploring Photoshop filters and effects.

When creating a self portrait with Photoshop, students will develop the ability to:
-- Use Photoshop's image editing tools effectively and efficiently,
-- Apply the elements of design,
-- Apply the visual and emotional qualities of color,
-- Exhibit effective presentation skills,
-- Demonstrate an understanding of the expressive qualities of a self-portrait,
-- Use digital recording tools to capture "resource images" for use in their work,
-- Organize their digital images efficiently.

All students will:
-- be instructed on the creative process,
-- be instructed on the use of Photoshop software,
-- be instructed on the use of color in visual design,
-- be instructed on the elements and principles of art,
-- recieve feedback on their own artwork,
-- be involved in group discussions of their work.

1. Project evaluations may take the form of group critiques, rating scales, checklists, written evaluations, and teacher interviews.
2. Group discussions give insight into the creative process and problem solving, providing an avenue for learning, how to talk about art, how to view art, and how to improve one's skills.

Equipment:
One fully equiped, up-to-date Macintosh computer system per student
One computer system for the teacher with additional RAM, processor speed, and storage to handle the course requirements
One digital projector system for presentation
Up to four, efficient color printers with abilities to print sizes up to 24X34"
Three digital scanners
Three, 5+ megapixel digital cameras
Other hands-on building equipment for cutting and pasting

Prerequisite courses are: Art 1 and Electronic Design 1
