Students will learn the characteristics and technical language for each topic. Each unit provides for hands-on learning to take place. Specific areas to be covered include: 400 *Stage lighting: Lekos, Fresnels, PARS, Strip Lights, Follow Spots, Pin Spots- lenses and lamps for all, reflective characteristics and illumination properties 400 *Stage lighting Accessories- Gels, Gobos, Top Hats, Barn Doors 400 *Operation of a lighting board to include programming and determinging cues 400 *Set Design: Practicality and functionality of sets, storage, safety, building, painting 400 *Costumes: How to choose costumes for specific shows 400 *Stage make-up: how to apply, how to age, how to create special effects 500 In this unit, the student will: 500 *Identify different types of lighting units ( leko, fresnel, par, strip light, follow spot, pin spot) and explain the characteristics that make each unit unique. 500 *Define technical teminology related to lighting, sets, costumes and make-up 500 *Identify and explain the uses for the many different types of lighting accessories 500 *Create a set design proposal for a given scene or musical 500 *Explain and/or demonstrate the process of building a flat 500 *Describe the different tools and materials used in set design 500 *Describe the main reasons for stage make-up 500 *Apply stage make-up according to specific specifications 500 600 In this unit each student will: 600 *Discuss the different types of lighting units designed in theatrical productions. Discussions will include: the characteristsic of each lighting unit-lamps, lens, shutters, how to focus, where each lighting unit will be most affective in a theater, lighting accessories-gels, gobos, tophats, barn doors, etc. , how to correctly and safely hang lighting units. 600 *Discuss the elements of set design: design and storage, stationary vs movable sets, periactoids, flats, how to construct a flat, basic tools used in set construction, set painting 600 *Costume design and choices for different characters and different productions 600 *Elements of stage make-up and its application to include prosthetics, hair, spirit gum use, special effects. Students will have the opportunity to apply make-up to their own faces. 700 Assessments for this unit will include: 700 *written quizzes and tests on lighting, set design, costumes and make-up 700 *Hands on activities such as hanging lighting units, applying stage make-up, set painting 700 800 If the class is offered at the same time a theaterical production is occurring, the students will have the opportunity to work on the technical aspects of said production. Students will be encouraged to aid in set painting, hanging lighting units, obtaining costumes and helping with make-up application during the run of the show.
