What is sight singing and how is it executed?
What is melodic dictationm and how is it executed?
What is rhythmic dictation and how is it executed?

In this unit, the student will begin to learn how to sight sing, notate melodies presented aurally and notate rhythms presented aurally. This is a skill that will continue to be developed over the course of the semester. Some students have a great deal of difficulty with this element of musicianship, others seem to breeze right through. The method of Moveable Do will be used to teach sight singing.

The student will:
*Aurally analyze melodies and notate them on the treble and bass staff.
*Aurally analyze rhythmic examples and notate them using correct musical notation
*Demonstrate and understanding of solfege by sight singing musical examples using moveable "Do".

Students will :
*Practice sight singing skills via the moveable Do system
*Practice melodic and rhythmic dictation

Students will be assessed via:
*sight singing quizzes
*Melodic and Rhythmic Dictation quizzes
*Class participation
