Musical phrases, cadences, harmonic progressions and melody will all be introduced. The student will utilize the elements of music theory learned to this point, incorporating note reading, rhythm and triads. At this point in the course, the student can begin to explore his/her creative side by composing music containing their own ideas. Students will compose in both major and harmonic minor using correct harmonic progressions and cadences. 500 The student will: 500 Compose 16-measure compositions using correct harmonic progressions 500 Compose musical phrases puncuated by an appropriate cadence 500 Compose a melody that is compatable harmonically with the harmonic progession 600 Each student will: 600 Compose many compositions in both major and harmonic minor keys. Compositions will be input into the FINALE music notation software program 600 Compose using simple and compound meters 600 700 Students will be assessed via the following means: 700 Compositions 700 Written quizzes and tests 700 Homework on progressions and cadences 700
