It is designed to introduce the students to BASIC music terminology for note reading, dynamics, expression, articulation, time signatures and key signatures. New concepts will be introduced as they are presented in the music being worked on at the time. Focus will also be placed upon how to read a choral octavo. 400 400 What are the names of the lines and spaces of the treble and bass staves? 400 What is a leger line? 400 What are the different voice types and ranges for choral music? 400 What is a time signature? 400 What is a key signature? 400 What are the values for the following notes and their corresponding rests in 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8 and 3/8: whole, half, quarter, eighth and sixteenths? 400 What are do the different symbols for dynamics mean? 400 What are the appropriate articulation symbols and definitions for legato, staccatto, slur, phrase, accent, etc.? 400 What is tempo? 400 What are expression techniques and symbols? 400 500 Students will demonstrate: 500 -an understanding of time signatures by counting and clapping musical examples written in 2/4, 2/4, 4/4, 3/8 and 6/8 500 -an understanding of dynamics, articulation symbols, expression symbols and their definitions through performance 500 -the ability to correctly identify pitches written on the treble and bass staves through written quizzes and class discussion. 500 600 Students will receive handouts and will have class discussions on: note reading, times signatures, key signatures, articulation, expression and dynamics. 600 600 Students will clap many rhythmic examples, alone and in groups, for simple and compound meters. 600 600 Students will identify and perform musical symbols found in their music. 600 600 Students will be expected to use proper musical terminology in class discussions. 600 600 Write a self evaluation or review of the three music concerts they participate in throughout the school year.
