Students will be responsiblie for performing the following scales, which will be rehearsed at each rehearsal. The ensemble will focus on one scale at a time, followed by an individual scale test. 400 400 -B Flat Concert Scale 400 -G Concert Scale 400 -E Flat Concert Scale 400 -D Concert Scale 400 400 **Students will also take part in discussions and shown examples of how scales are used in music. 400 400 **Students will be introduced to the following rhythmic concepts and work to apply them to their performance repitoire. 400 -Rhythm: Quarter, Eighth, Half, and Whole Notes, Basic Dotted Rhythm 400 400 -Meter: 4/4, 3/4, 2/4 400 400 -Rests: Quarter, Eighth, Half, and Whole Notes, Basic Dotted Rhythm 400 400 **In addition, the following vocabulary words/symbols will be introduced and worked into daily rehearsals as presented in performance repitoire. 400 400 -Vocabulary: key signature, time signature, staff, note head, stem, flat, sharp, natural, bar line, double bar line, repeat sign, first & second endings, breath mark, leger line, 400 400 500 1) Students will perform B flat, G, E flat, and D Major scales alone and with ensemble 500 500 2) Student will use correct All-State rhythmic patterns when performing scales 500 500 3) Student will articulate how and why scales are an important part of music 500 500 4) Students will demonstrate the ability to perform rhythms from whole notes to basic dotted rhythms accurately 500 500 5) Students will describe the meaning of time signatures 4/4, 3/4, 2/4 500 500 6) Students will define the following vocabulary words and apply them to music which they are performing: 500 key signature, time signature, staff, note head, stem, flat, sharp, natural, bar line, double bar line, repeat sign, first & second endings, breath mark, leger line 600 -Student will practice scales during each ensemble rehearsal and on own 600 600 -Student will be tested regularly on scales and musical knowlege 600 600 -Students will read new rhythmic patterns while clapping and counting aloud on a daily basis in rehearsals 600 600 -All students will experience weekly/bi-weekly individual testing on Major scales 600 600 600 600 700 Students will be assessed regularly through the following means: 700 1) scale playing tests 700 2) written tests focusing on music knowlege, vocabulary, etc. 700 3) sectional rehearsal observations 700 4) individual instruction 800 Students will have the opportunity to study with a professional on their own instrument through participation in the Community School of the Arts Satelite Program, through the Universtiy of Connecticut. This program bring professional musicians from Connecticut to Woodstock Academy to offer private instruction to our students.
