This concept is introduced for the first time, in the "tuning" unit in Concert Band. Through this unit students will learn: 400 400 1) How the size of an instrument effects the sound/pitch 400 400 2) What the correct tuning process in during our everyday rehearsals and at performances 400 400 3) The tuning tendancies of ones own instrument 400 400 4) The effect of "out of tune playing" 400 400 5) How to adjust ones own instrument to be " in-tune" 400 400 6) Propper breath support and adjustments needed to play all notes in-tune, not just the one tuning pitch. 500 1) Student will identify intonation problems within students' own playing 500 500 2) Student wil identify intonation problems within an ensemble 500 500 3) Student will demonstrate proper sequence of daily tuning process 500 500 4) Student will describe relationships between size of instrument and tonal range 500 500 5) Student will identify and react to intonation tendancies specific to thier own instrument 500 500 6) Students will experiment and document intonation based tendency tones on ones own instrument 500 500 500 600 1) Student will tune their own instrument on a daily basis 600 600 2) Student will sing with ensemble to assist in aural skill developement and ability to tune ones own instrument 600 600 3) students will use a tuner to check their own tuning adjustments 600 600 700 1) Individual tuning will be followed by an ensemble choral to assess overall intonation 700 700 2) Tuner's will be available for students to do Self assessment on success of individual tuning 700 700 3) students' individual intonation will be checked reqularly throughout rehearsals.
