How are the concepts learned in this course applied to the solving social issues?

This unit introduces students to the principles of pharmacology. This includes pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, the drug discovery process, and the FDA New Drug Approval Process. Students will apply concepts learned to their pharmaceutical drug project and a case study using nerve gas. This unit is a bridge from the muscular system to the nervous system.

Students in Anatomy and Physiology will develop the ability to:

A. Distinguish between pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and relate concepts to the hurdles of the drug discovery process,

B. Evaluate the therapeutic index of drugs to determine if the benefits outweigh the risks,

C. Outline the FDA New Drug Approval Process and discuss the importance of each component.

Pharmaceutical Drug Research Project and Presentation

Students will be assessed by way of :
-- Objective and subjective testing
-- Pharmaceutical Drug Project
