What are the processes by which the photosynthetic mechanism converts light energy into usable chemical energy?
What are some of the factors that could affect these energy processes?

1. Strucure of a leaf
2. Photosynthetic system (chloroplast structure/function)
3. General equation (recognize reactants and products)
4. Light dependent reactions: Overall purpose
A. Photosystem II (events and fate of the products)
B. Electron transport chain (events and final outcome)
C. Photosystem I (events and products)
D. ATP Synthesis and reducted NADP
5. Light independent reactions (Calvin Cycle): Overall purpose
A. Carbon Fixation
B. Production of PGAL
C. Restocking of RuBP
6. Factors that affect photosynthesis

Students in Biology will develop the ability to:
1. Recognize the significance of energy storage within chemical bonds for living systems,
2. Describe leaf structure as it relates to optimal photosynthesis,
3. Identify reactants/products of photosynthesis,
4. Develop the logic of light E to chemical E conversion within photosythesis,
5. Account for the role of light, water, and carbon dioxide in the photosynthetic process,
6. Describe the steps of the light dependent and light independent reactions including final products of each.
