What isthe effect of dilution on pH?
Is the graph of an individual's data or the mean of the class data better?

Molarity
Making molar solutions
Dilution problems
Unsaturated, saturated,and supersaturated solutions
Solubility curves
Solutions vs. suspensions
Serial dilutions

Students will develop the ability to:
Calculate the molarity of a solution and determining the mass of solvent necessary to make a solution of a given molarity
Clean and use pipets properly
Solve dilution problems
Collect pH data with Vernier probes, downloading data to a computer and preparing a graph
Calculate pH

Molarity worksheets
Practice with dilution problems
Calculating pH of solutions with given molarities
Practice using and cleaning burets
Lab activity: Students will serially dilute an NaOH solution and determine the pH of each dilution with a Vernier probe. They will download the data to a computer and prepare a graph
Students will jutify the difference between the measured and calculated pH values
Students will use their graphs to predict the pH of solutions with molarities different from those prepared in the lab
Students will calculate the standard deviation and mean values of the pH for each dilution
Students will graph the mean values and determine if this graph is more accurate than their individual graphs
Experience solving dilution problems involved in agriculture

Ability to solve molarity and dilution problems and calculate pH
Lab reports
Graphs
Practice tests
