Students are expected to develop independant practice habbits and demonstrate a high level of self descipline as well as excellent ensemble interaction. Through out the year, students will learn the basic music reading, rhythmic patterns, meters, and major scales. Students will also develop good technique for tuning, and musicality needed to be succesful in creating music with an ensemble. In addition, students will be exposed to a vide variety of music from different time periods, cultures, and genres to include but not be limited to : 400 Marches, Chorales, Pop Music (for the pops concert), Transcriptions of classic orchestral works, etc. Student's work will culminate in public performances throughout the year. 400 400 The Music Department currently has 3 public performances as follows: Winter Concert in December:combined choral program with band program at the Hyde School, Spring Concert: choral and band programs are in separate concerts taking place in the Woodstock Academy Auditorium (the band portion is over 2 nights, on the first night the incomming 8th graders are invited to participate), and The Pops Concert: this is once again combined with choral ensembles and bands. This is an outdoor concert, weather permitting. This helps to give the students constructive criticism as well as reinforces the daily rehearsal concepts covered in Symphonic Band. WAMD has traveled to such places as Toronto, Virginia Beach, New York City, Washington, D.C. and performed in the Magical Music Days at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. 800 800 *Freshmen-seniors that are a member of the WAMD Instrumental program are eligible to audition for the extra curricular instrumental ensembles Jazz Band and Drum Line. 800 800 *Any student that is a member of the WAMD Instrumental program is eligible to audition for the CMEA Eastern Region Music Festival and the NEMFA Music Festival. Instrumentalists in Concert Band or Symphonic Band may also be considered for nomination to the Quinebaug Valley Music Festival Honor Band. 800 800 *Students will be encouraged to participate in the East Woodstock Cornet Band (community band program) 800 800 820 Music will be selected from the Woodstock Academy Instrumental Library with supplemental pieces being purchased from vendors such as J.W. Pepper. Currently, the WAMD Instrumental Library has over 400 titles.
