As stated in Connecticut's 2005 World Language Curriculum Framework, there are six domains and nine content standards which frame world language content:

1.How do I use my understanding of culture to communicate and function appropriately in another culture?

1.How do I use my understanding of another language and culture to reinforce and expand my knowledge of other disciplines, and vice versa?
2.How do I use my understanding of another language and culture to broaden and deepen my understanding of that language and culture and access and use information that would otherwise be unavailable to me?

Spanish III, taught mainly in Spanish, develops more fully the four communication skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing as well as the five C's of foreign language learning (i.e. communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities).
At this level, particular stress is placed upon improving the student's ability to creatively express his or her emotions and thoughts in both spontaneous conversation and prepared composition. The student's ability to read and grasp directly the general meaning of materials in Spanish is enhanced by the continued stress on the development of reading comprehension. Subject matter to be covered includes vocabulary, grammar, syntax, and idiomatic expressions pertaining to: people and places, time, school, health, cultural events, family life, seasonal recreation, travel, daily activities, food and dining customs, greetings and salutations, nationalities; numbers-ordinal and cardinal; definite and indefinite articles; adjectives; present, preterite, imperfect, future, conditional, present perfect, pluperfect, present subjunctive, and progressive tenses of regular and irregular verbs; direct and indirect object pronouns, prepositions; formal and Informal commands; parts of speech; possessi

Students in Spanish III will develop the ability to exhibit the following skills specifically stated by the Connecticut State Department of Education World Languages Curriculum Framework:
COMMUNICATION

-- understand and interpret spoken and written language on a variety of topics,
-- present information, concepts and ideas to listeners or readers on a variety of topics.
CULTURES
-- demonstrate an understanding of the products, practices, and perspectives of the cultures studied and use their cultural knowledge for interpersonal, interpretative, and presentational communication.
CONNECTIONS
-- reinforce and expand their knowledge of other areas of study through the world language, and vice versa,
-- acquire and use information from a variety of sources only available in the world language.
COMPARISONS AMONG LANGUAGES

All Spanish III students will:

-- Create a collage about personal identities,
-- Express feelings and opinions in oral and written form,
-- Read, summarize, and discuss information regarding the Hispanic and Spanish culture,
-- Give oral presentations (assigned projects),
-- Participate in grammar and vocabulary-building activities,
-- Create thematic-based vocabulary and/or cultural projects,
-- Role play real life situations,
-- Create and present theme-based mini-skits in the target language,
-- Review previous levels' vocabulary and grammar.

After-school tutoring is offered on assigned days by the Spanish National Honor Society and teachers.
Students may be nominated for Spanish National Honor Society based on the bylaws of the Society.
