The Counseling Department is pleased to introduce a computer program called Family Connection powered by the company Naviance.  It is a web-based program dedicated to college and career searches and information.  All 11th graders are given passwords and introduced to the program.  Juniors are encouraged to utilize it throughout their college and career searches.  It has proven to be an extremely helpful and powerful tool for students and counselors. If 9th or 10th graders would like to get a head start and use this program, please talk to your school counselor for your own account.  Any person can log on and try the program as a guest.  Students who log on to their own account will have access to more features of Family Connection than people who log on as a Guest.  Please call the counseling office with any questions.  Enjoy!

Mission Statement

The mission is to prepare all students for a lifetime of learning through information and activities that focus on their academic, personal, social and career needs.

Philosophy

The program is founded on the belief that each student possesses intrinsic worth and is a unique and dynamic individual personality capable of personal growth and self-direction. Respectful of differences, the program assists and supports students as they begin to understand themselves, develop decision-making and problem solving skills and plan for the future. The program provides a diversity of experiences suited to the individual student’s aptitudes, interests and goals while providing necessary and important information in preparation for success in further education or a career. Counseling promotes effective communication and life planning skills that help students grow into responsible adults.

Confidentiality

We believe that the confidentiality of communications between students and counselors is a critical part of the counseling relationship. The law requires that this confidentiality be broken only in the following circumstances:

  • When there is danger to yourself or others
  • When required by state laws mandating reporting cases of child abuse, maltreatment and neglect
  • When consultation with other professionals is required regarding a specific matter. In these cases the student’s identity is kept confidential whenever possible

Nondiscrimination Policy

It is the policy of Woodstock Academy not to discriminate on the basis of sex, orientation, race or creed in its educational programs, activities or employment policies.
