Social StudiesDepartment

The Woodstock Academy Social Studies Department is dedicated to promoting the ideals of civic activism and global responsibility, as well the knowledge and skills necessary for success after high school. Required social studies courses include: World History (9th grade), 19th Century US History (10th) grade, The U.S. and the World in the 20th Century (11th grade), and Civics (11th or 12th grade). In addition, the social studies department offers a wide array of elective course offerings, including: International Relations I and II, Social Problems, Current Affairs, China Studies, European History, Psychology, History of Living Religions, and Military History. Members of the social studies department also seek to expand student learning beyond the borders of the classroom, whether it be arranging a debate involving local political candidates, taking students on a trip abroad, or partnering with the community to help solve pressing local, national, and international problems.
