Welcome to Woodstock Academy's World Language Department

The Woodstock Academy World Language Department offes six languages: Spanish, French, Latin, Italian, Mandarin and English Language Learners. Woodstock Academy also offers a German and Japanese Culture Club that meets after school to educate the Woodstock Academy community about the Japanese and/or German language and culture through lessons, guest speakers, and campus-wide activities. Woodstock Academy Students also have the opportunity to learn about Ancient Greece through an Independent Study.

The World Language Department offers honor societies for French, Latin, Spanish and Italian. Students who maintain consistently high grades in their respective langauge are invited to join the Honor Societies.

Real World Experiences

Our students are able to use their langauge skills in a variety of real world experiences.  Our Honors Spanish students are currently being employed as tutors for the new Woodstock Elementary School Spanish program. Also each year in April the upper level Spanish students are invited to the Pomfret Community School to participate in a langauge and culture day with the middle school students.  This year our French students are taking a trip to NFA to meet with the Haitian club and practice their French. Our Latin students participate in Latin Day each May where they take part in Ancient activites and contests such as chariot racing.

Offered Trips

We have many trips offered each year. Last February the Latin students visited Rome and Florence and the Spanish students visited Spain. This year the French students are taking a trip to France and next year in the spring is our Senegal exchange.
