Preparing for College
At The Woodstock Academy, each student has a College and Career Counselor who supports them from the moment they first walk through our doors, to the moment they walk across the stage and receive their diploma. Counselors work with students to create an individualized academic plan designed to help them set and achieve their educational and career goals.
The vast majority of our students choose to continue their education after high school and, in recent years, they've been accepted to some of the most prestigious American colleges and universities, including:
Harvard University
Yale University
Columbia University
Brown University
Dartmouth College
Pennsylvania State University
Wesleyan University
New York University
Berklee College of Music
Boston University
Boston College
Johns Hopkins University
University of California, Berkeley
University of California, Los Angeles
Northeastern University
University of North Carolina
West Point (The United States Military Academy)
Here are just a few of the ways The Woodstock Academy prepares students to aim high and achieve their goals:
Earning College Credit
The Woodstock Academy partners with The University of Connecticut to provide Early College Experience Courses. These courses, taught by Woodstock Academy faculty, allow students to earn both high school credit and college credit.
AP Courses
The Woodstock Academy offers 20 Advanced Placement courses that prepare students to take College Board’s AP tests. Testing is offered on campus. These rigorous courses and test scores are accepted by many colleges and universities.
College Testing
Each student has opportunities to take the PSAT and SAT for free during school-wide test days. The Woodstock Academy is also a testing center for additional SATs, as well as ACT, AP, and TOEFL.
The College Search
The process of finding the right school can be daunting, but The Woodstock Academy counselors bring their years of experience to help students find the right fit. Hundreds of college representatives regularly visit campus for information sessions and the annual college fair.
The Application Processes
College and Career counselors support students through the college application process through individual guidance and group workshops on developing a resume, writing essays, applying for financial aid, completing the Common Application, and more.
