WA Prep Soccer Wins Prep Premier League Championship in its First Season Under New Leadership

The Woodstock Academy Prep Soccer Team triumphed with an exhilarating victory in the Prep Premier League Playoffs, showcasing an outstanding display of skill, determination, and teamwork. After a decisive 2-0 victory over Phelps School in Friday’s semi-final match, the Centaurs advanced to defeat Northwood School in the Prep Premier Championship with a final score of 3-1 with goals scored by Choelhui (David) Cho ‘26, Hendrix Mota ‘24, and David Lee ‘24.

Following the exciting and close championship match at the Capelli Sports Complex in Tinton Falls, NJ, the WA prep soccer team has been named Prep School Soccer National Champions by prepsoccer.com. This tremendous success comes after less than a year under the new leadership of Coach Owen Finberg.

“We have a wonderful group of talented young men. Our group is very talented, but most importantly, they exhibited exceptional teamwork today and throughout the season. We have battled adversity many times, including going down early today, and through every situation they continued to support and work for each other on and off the field,” said Finberg.

The team, comprised of student-athletes from 16 different countries and seven different states, completed an undefeated regular season with a 13-0-1 record and finished strong with a 15-0-1 record and 12 total shutouts.

“I’m thrilled to see this hardworking team and coaching staff experience this rapid success. It’s a testament to their level of talent and dedication to the game. More than that, I’m proud to cheer on a group of well-rounded humans who have such a positive impact on our school community,” said Head of School Chris Sandford.

The team's remarkable success will undoubtedly inspire future generations of Centaurs and serve as a source of pride for the entire Woodstock Academy community.

While the season has come to a close, the prep team will play in college showcases in the spring and get back at it next fall for regular season competition.
