WA Welcomes New Director of Campus Safety

The Woodstock Academy is proud to announce the appointment of Detective Lieutenant Anthony Gomes as the new Director of Campus Safety, effective November 27. With an extensive background that spans a variety of positions and training, as well as his steadfast commitment to promoting campus security and well-being, Gomes is set to lead The Academy’s efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment for its students, faculty, and staff.

Gomes brings a variety of experience from his nearly 30-year career in law enforcement, including multiple years of working as a school resource officer in Norwich Public Schools, as well as serving as an advisor to school administrators and supervisor of the SRO program, which is now comprised of four officers.

In addition to the knowledge he brings, Gomes is well-equipped to build upon the strong foundation established by departing director Craig Rich, who served at The Academy for just over 11 years. Rich will be transitioning into retirement and has expressed confidence in Gomes’ ability to carry forward the mission of campus safety at WA.

Gomes expressed his excitement for the position, stating, "I chose WA because campus safety is taken seriously, and they truly value the meaning of community. They have proven they are leaders in the area of school safety, and after meeting the dedicated professionals at The Academy, I’m honored to serve in this role."

Key responsibilities of the Director of Campus Safety include developing and implementing safety policies and protocols, leading emergency response teams, developing and maintaining community partnerships, and overseeing campus security initiatives.
