Wrestling to Make a Return to The Woodstock Academy

The Woodstock Academy is proud to announce the return of its wrestling program as a winter athletic offering at the varsity level. Set to re-launch in the 2023-24 school year, the program will be led by former Woodstock Academy wrestling team member and current campus safety staff member, Cahan Quinn ‘16. The program last competed during the 2017-2018 season.
Athletic Director Sean Saucier recently held an organizational meeting for the program to gauge student interest, with over 25 potential wrestlers showing up to confirm just that.
“We were looking for, at minimum, 15-20 potential wrestlers and we got that. It’s a great sport for boys and girls and we’re super excited to get it back,” Saucier said.
With the addition of wrestling, winter sports at The Woodstock Academy include three levels of boys and girls basketball, unified basketball, boys and girls ice hockey, boys and girls indoor track, gymnastics, cheerleading, and a ski team. The Academy has already reached out to the Eastern Connecticut Conference which has agreed to add the Centaurs to the league schedule for the sport next winter, locking in wrestling as an official Academy sport once again.
Since being named head coach, Quinn has reflected on what it was like to be a wrestler at The Woodstock Academy. “I remember the family aspect; to be with the team for most of the week and then on Saturday for the all-day tournaments. You really get to know your teammates and spend a lot of time together,” he said.
“It’s a great way for the kids to stay fit and work on their strength. I’m excited to have Cahan (who is also an assistant football coach) as our wrestling coach as there will be a lot of crossover there,” said Saucier who is also The Academy’s head football coach.
