Week 8: Centaurs get back on ice and post shutout win

January 21st was a long time ago.

The Woodstock Academy boys hockey team certainly knows that.

That was the last time it stepped on the ice to play a game.

Two weeks later, the Centaurs finally got to don the skates again in a competitive manner and posted a 5-0 shutout victory over Smithfield, R.I. on the road on Saturday.

It didn't take long to get going against the Division I Rhode Island school.

Donnie Sousa took a pass from Maxx Corradi and tallied just 3 minutes, 49 seconds into the contest.

But that was also the score at the end of the first 15-minute period.

The story was almost identical in the second period.

This time, Corradi was the one who put it in the net just 3:36 into the period off an assist from Seamus Coleman.

It, however, was also the only goal of the period.

But the rust finally peeled off in the third as both Corradi and Sousa netted their second goals of the game and Noah Sampson had a goal and two assists to guarantee the Centaurs the win.

Woodstock Academy will not have to wait long for a game this coming week.

It plays host to Housatonic Regional on Monday at 8:15 p.m. in the annual Military Appreciation game at the Jahn Ice Rink at Pomfret School.

That game will be broadcast live on

The Centaurs follow that up with a game on Wednesday at home against Moses Brown out of Rhode Island at 6:30 p.m.

They finish off the week with a Senior Day game against the East Haven Co-Op on Saturday at 11 a.m.

That game will also be broadcast live on
