Meet 3: Menounos, Bastura win, several qualify at ECC meet in Providence

Sophomore Christian Menounos dominated the 1000-meter race, winning by nine seconds, in 2 minutes, 45 seconds Sunday at an Eastern Connecticut Conference meet at Providence Tech.Teammate Charles Caggiano placed second.

Another distance runner, Vince Bastura, placed first in the 1600m with Colton Sallum in fourth in the event.

The boys 1600m sprint medley team of Menounos, Carter Saracina, Braedon Emerson and Jeff Phongsa placed second and qualified for the upcoming state competition.

Phongsa was also fifth in the 300m and qualified for states in that event. Also qualifying for states were Aiden Kane and Mateuzs Chojnicki in the long jump.

On Saturday, senior Liam Wilcox placed fifth in a pentathlon event at Bethel High School.
